About Us

History

For many years Benito Vilma, a great local dominican musician and our former Development  director, had envision an organization working for the dominicans in Wisconsin. In the quest of his ambition, he recruited Julia Reyes, an accountant, social activist and our current Chairman, and both have additoned a strong team of volunteers, that together are working non stop to create, support and develop what is today Dominicanos Unidos de Wisconsin, Inc. The organization was founded on May 30, 2009. In such short period we have been able to establish excellent working links with schools, non profit organizations, the Dominican Consulate in Chicago, job agencies, and individuals who are efficiently contributing with their efforts to help us achieve our mission.

The seed was planted on May 30, 2009 when we had our Inaugural meeting. On August 31, 2009 the organization became a non stock corporation in the State of Wisconsin. Our application for Tax Exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service was deposited on July 2010, and approved on November 18, 2010 retroactive to August 2009. We became a 501(c) (3) Non Profit Organization. On October 12, 2010 we received our permanent license as a Charitable Organization from the Wisconsin Department of Regulation & Licensing.
